emerging Canadian Artist

This artist may be of interest to students in the Professional Practices. We have all just finished our portfolios and I thought you might be interested in the online portfolio of Zane Turner, a recent BFA graduate from Quebec. He has his artist statement, works in progress and several painting series online. I discovered him at the Artists in Canada Directory web site.

Collective Update

There are a few things that are being developed. Instead of Pecha Kucha Night a committee is applying for funding to put on a Collective Show. Also possibly a Christmas Art Sale will be organized. More info about these will be posted after the committee organizing meetings.

There will be a drawing/painting portraiture meetings on the second and fourth Monday of the month in the drawing studio starting November 8 at 6pm.

There are various locations around Kwantlen Surrey campus that have been secured for exhibiting student work. Hopefully we can get this going over the next week.

So it is an ambitious agenda let's see what happens.

Pecha Kucha Night

I was researching civic opportunities for artists and came across this one posted on the City of Richmond.Pecha Kucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creativity worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images X 20 seconds each. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace

How to Submit a Proposal
On one page, 81/2" X 11", please explain why you want to participate in the first Richmond Public Art Pecha Kucha Night. All concepts are welcome, from the humorous to the profound, visionary and unbuilt proposals to completed projects. Include your name, professional affiliation, address, email and telephone number.

Selection Process
One Curator will select up to ten (10) presenters for a lively, informal, educational and entertaining evening event, as part of Richmond's participation in Culture Days, on Saturday September 25, 2010 at 7:30pm in the Richmond Cultural Centre 7700 Minoru Gate.

I'm sure you've all received the announcement that Coca Cola (our very own Kwantlen soft drink) is offering grants to student groups to do a project outside of the classroom. Deadline is November 15th so we need to hustle. I think if we use the above format and put on our own Pecha Kucha Night.

We can apply for Coca Cola funding. Can we discuss this at the next meeting which I hope is asap.

Cheers
Elizabeth
